In May 2005, Earl and Doug were offered to purchase A-1 Fire Protection, a well known business in Lane County and the South Coast areas. They both felt it was an honor to be offered a well established business and a great opportunity for their families. In September 2006 they were able to move from Doug's garage to their current location at 171 Exchange in Roseburg. They also kept their shop at 3773 Main Street Springfield open.

Today, Umpqua Valley Fire Services/A-1 has 10 of the best service employees that cover from Brookings north to Reedsport, Douglas County, and Lane County north to the Portland metro area and Deschutes County. They are a safety and service company that supplies a broad range of high-quality products and services to the fire safety industry. They offer fire extinguisher sales and service, hydro testing, fire hydrant testing, fire hydrant repair, fire sprinkler testing, emergency lighting testing, fire investigations, back flow testing, and installation of automatic fire suppression system.

They remain an independent, family-owned company with a motivated workforce that focuses 24 hours a day, seven days a week on their customers' needs.
